A GERMAN JEWELLED AND ENAMELLED GOLD PRESENTATION SNUFF-BOX
by Carl Martin Weishaupt & Söhne, marked, Hanau, circa 1860, with inventory number 2417 and later Soviet control marks
Cartouche-shaped box, the baluster sides and base engraved with floral scrolls, the cover applied with an oval translucent red guilloché enamel plaque set with old and rose-cut diamond studded initial 'A I', a coronet above, possibly for Prince Alexander I of Bulgaria (1857-1893, formerly Prince Alexander of Battenberg), on a sablé ground stamped with reeded scrolls and flowers, applied with six red-enamelled flowerhead rosettes
