Lot Essay

Jeanne Mammen was born in Berlin in 1890. After studying in Paris and Brussels she returned to Berlin in 1919. It is for her critical images of Berlin society during the 1920s, similar to Otto Dix and George Grosz, for which she is probably best known and which define her predominantly as an artist of the Neue Sachlichkeit movement.
