A SUPERB FANCY DARK GRAY-YELLOWISH GREEN "CHAMELEON" DIAMOND RING
Set with a cut-cornered triangular-cut fancy dark yellowish-green diamond weighing 4.41 carats, to the plain platinum mount (unmounted in illustration)
With certificate 10665277 dated 1/7/99 from the Gemological Institute of America stating that the diamond is fancy dark gray-yellowish green, natural colour, SI1 clarity
With certificate 0102383 dated 2/3/01 from the Gübelin Gemmological Laboratory stating that the diamond is fancy deep yellowish-green, natural colour and changes to FANCY VIVID YELLOW temporarily when heated, or left in darkness for a period of time and is known in the trade as "CHAMELEON"
Accompanied by an appendix stating that the quality of colour change and purity of the respective hues observed in this diamond places it as one of the finest "Chameleon" diamonds the Gübelin Gem Lab has examined to date and that "Chameleon" diamonds of this size and quality of colour change are truly rare.

"Chameleon" diamonds are one of the great mysteries of the diamond world. It is still not known why these diamonds change from deep green to yellow when heated or left in darkness. Gemmological studies state that the change is due to an unstable colour centre. but do not explain the exact nature of the colour centres or why they are sensitive to ultra violet light. All that is known for certain is that these stones are very rare and vary a great deal in both the quality of the colours and extent of colour change.
