Note:
Three of the four pieces of calligraphy in this scroll are discussed by Xu Bangda in Gushuhua Wei'e Kaobian (Forgeries and Mis-attributions of Classical Paintings and Calligraphy).These are the first, third and fourth pieces. The first fan leaf is without a doubt by Emperor Gaozhong, and has been published in The Art of Song and Yuan, Japan, [year etc]. Xu Bangda considers the third and fourth pieces to be by Emperor Lizhong in his book. The fourth piece is recorded in Duan Fang's Renyin Xiaoxia lu (Whiling the Summer Away in the Renyin Year - 1902). Compared to the calligraphic fan leaves by Emperors Gaozhong and Lizhong housed in the Metropolitan Museum, New York, and previously in the collection of Pan Zhengwei, it can easily be seen that these the present three pieces are from the same hands whether in terms of style, brush strokes or construction of characters.
