The French conjurer Jean Eugene Robert-Houdin (1805-1871) is revered as the father of modern conjuring. His brother in law Pierre August Chocat, known as Hamilton took over the theatre in 1852, but in 1871 Emile Robert-Houdin (d.1882) took over his father's conjuring theatre
