Circa 1720, gilt at Augsburg, probably in the workshop of Abraham Seuter; the gold mount contemporary with the box
The cover gilt and chased with Chinese figures beside palm trees flanking a crowned monogram, possibly DMC, the sides reserved with flower sprays on the gold ground, the bottom with chinoiserie figures on a strapwork bracket, the interior of the cover gilt and chased with a lady seated at a table playing with a squirrel and with attendants at the right, one holding a parasol, the interior of the box gilt, the thumbrest chased with foliate scrolls centering a shell
