A Venice enamelled biblical decanter and stopper
Late 18th century
The mallet-shaped body decorated with a continuous scene depicting Joseph being taken out of the well by the Ismaelite merchants, their camels to the background, flanked by trees and a rocaille cartouche, inscribed in Italian underneath: Giusepe viene vendutto agli ismaeliti (Joseph sold to the Ismaelites), the elongated neck with a lappet border to the edge, the spire stopper with a ball finial (stopper with crack)
