The present composition is recorded in the files of the Rijksbureau voor Kunsthistorisches Documentatie as by Pieter Soutman. It has been suggested that this painting may be the pendant of or related to the Portrait of a father and two sons (?), oil on canvas, 97 x 74 cm. in the collection of Lord Plymouth, Oakly Park, Shropshire.
