Château Haut-Brion--Vintage 1970
Pessac (Graves), 1er cru classé
Levels: top shoulder; signs of slight seepage
"Curiously it appears to have deepened in colour, though now, despite its richness and a degree of intensity, it is showing some maturity. Haut-Brion has a smell and taste unlike its Médoc peers; indeed, all it has in common with the other first growths is, happily, great quality, style and finesse. Bouquet variously desribed as gravelly, hot pepper and iodine, tobacco, also as both coffee and tea! The palate more consistent: touch of ripe sweetness leading eventually to a dry, still tannic finish. Medium full-bodied, touch of leanness, lovely silky texture, elegant and complete." GVWB
