Grands-Echézeaux--Vintage 1961
Côte de Nuits, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti
Level: 7.5cm; soiled and damaged label
Tasted April 1999 and July 1996. The wine, like other 1961 DRC's, had a blackish violet color at the center, fading to a tawny rim. The nose was sensationally rich and redolent of surperripe strawberries, bananas, and pineapples. The palate added a lively mineral quality balanced by rich fruit, still fresh, with notes of butter and tar. The wine had good viscosity and tremendous length, and made a good case for the 1961 DRC's. FH
