The down-curving domed lid with a painted landscape depicting figures in the countryside within floral vinery borders and opening to a paper-lined divided interior, the spreading body painted with gilt floral sprays, stamped JENNENS & BETTRIDGE MAKERS TO THE QUEEN

Messrs. A. Jennens and T.H. Bettridge were the most celebrated of the Birmingham papier maché manufacturers, who flourished between 1816 and 1864.
