Lot Essay

Gorham's records show that this bowl was made as a sample, which is typical of pieces made specially for Expositions. The chased decoration alone required 145 hours by chaser Ernest W. Regester, who worked on the piece in the Experimental Silversmiths' Room at the Gorham factory. The bowl was completed on April 23, 1904, and the net factory price was $240.
