Baluster form, with bayonet mounted pierced cover, the sides chased with flutes and applied with a molding and crimped wire, the front engraved with a crest and monogram RGR, marked with smallwork mark under base
7in. high; 8oz.
Provenance
According to family history, this caster was originally owned by Johannes de Peyster (1694-1789), and descended from him through the Remsen family. De Peyster was Mayor of Albany three times between 1729 and 1742. A spoon made for his funeral is in the Yale University Art Gallery (Buhler & Hood, American Silver, 1970, cat. no. 738).
