A GREEK STRIPED MOSAIC GLASS BOWL
Hellenistic Period, Circa Early 1st Century B.C.
Hemispherical in form, molded from fused irregular sections, including lengths of opaque yellow and opaque white together with mosaic sections of transparent blue and green with white streaks, a transparent cane, wound spirally with opaque red and white, attached at the rim, on an applied base ring
3¼ in. (8.3 cm) diameter

Lot Essay

Late Hellenistic glass vessels of this form are known as the Antikythera Group after the famous shipwreck discovered near Antikythera in 1900 which included five such mosaic glass bowls. See pp. 195-196 and fig. 112 in Grose, Early Ancient Glass.
