"In 1960, David was painting themes he had worked at in ceramics, at the same time expressing in sculptured clay certain ideas he had for his canvases. The tragedy of the extermination of the Tasmanian Aborigines aroused in David a great sympathy that he expressed both on canvas and in ceramic sculpture, Truganini, the last known of the Tasmanians."
