Lot Essay

A service in this pattern was apparently ordered by the Philadelphia Quakers Isaac and Mary Morris. The sketchbook survives in which Mary Morris copied a Dutch engraving to serve as the service's design. See J.G. Lee, Philadelphians and the China Trade, pp. 73-4
