Lot Essay

The building, which has now lost its thatch, has been identified as Chine Cottage, School Lane, Burwash, eight miles north west of Battle in Sussex. Rudyard Kipling, who had formerly lived at Rottingdean, moved to Batemans, Burwash, in 1902 and Nicholson visited him on several occasions.
