Lot Essay

The present work was painted in the same year as Morris's larger composition Landscape of Birds (38¾ x 46 in., private collection) in which he visualised a scene in Southern Spain or North Africa with indigenous birds (see R. Morphet, Cedric Morris, Tate Gallery exhibition catalogue, 1984, p. 106).
