Our last picnic at Blackpool
signed 'HELEN BRADLEY' and with a fly (lower left)and inscribed 'Our last week at Blackpool: It was/just what we wished for. The sun/shone every day, the corn had turned/golden, and the hay was dried and gathered/in. Mother, the Aunts, Miss Carter (who wore pink)/and I could wear our pretty muslins, but,/alas, we couldnt go out in the car (Esmarelda)/because petrol was so hard to get. We had/only just enough to get us home, also, Poor/old Prince had died in the Spring, but, we had Mr Taylor (the Bank Manager) here to help/us carry our picnic out to the fields./Although we were very anxious about/the war and the difficulties in getting food/,and supplies for our business, Grandpa said/Enjoy this week, and fill our lungs with/the fresh sea air to help us through the winter./We all went home refreshed and the year/was 1917.' (on a label attached to the reverse)
