Lot Essay

'Elisabeth Frink's affection for horses stems from her country childhood ... Horses are extremely sensitive to their surroundings, perceiving danger, for instance, far sooner than their riders. For her, horses represent a multiplicity of meanings - masculine and feminine sexuality, wildness, unusual sensitivity and freedom from mental and physical constraint.' (see S. Kent, A Bestiary for our time, reproduced in B. Robertson, Elisabeth Frink Sculpture Catalogue Raisonné, Salisbury, 1984, p. 67).
