Lot Essay

'The original plaster for this piece was returned to the artist in Woolland, Dorset in 1982-83 and was thought not to have been cast. It is recorded in the catalogue raisonné as 'not cast'. The plaster cast was subsequently damaged but a bronze was cast with a chipped beak and no tail. It has been confirmed that the present work is an original and unique bronze from the complete undamaged cast' (L. Jammett, private correspondence, 2000).
