signed on the 12½-inch (31.7cm.) diameter horizontal circle G. ADAMS LONDON, the finely engraved glazed compass graduated in degrees and with eight compass points, steel needle and jewelled cap, the compass box and alidade arm painted orange, with four ebonised iron sights, the underside painted red, with staff or tripod mounting
