Each figure stands with opposing arms outstretched, St. Matthew has a cherubim mask at his feet, on inscribed hexagonal bases

Lot Essay

The statuettes have added brass labels inscribed in Spanish 'SN MATEO and 'PABLO' which are not necessarily correct identifications. The hexagonal bases have irregular cut-outs, where they were adjusted to fit on an architectural moulding, perhaps part of an altar tabernacle.
