Engraved map on four sheets of the southern and central areas of New York State, dissected and mounted on cloth, folding 1510 x 1010mm. The detailed map extending from Lake Champlain down the Hudson to Long Island, with insets of Lake Champlain and the White Hills of the upper Connecticut valley, scale bars in leagues and British miles, large compass rose (A few small wormholes to several sections, cloth very lightly stained), old French label lettered in manuscript 'New York et Pensylvanie par le Cap't Montresor, 1775'.
An attractive and important strategic map of the Hudson, drawn up by Captain Montresor before the American War of Independence. One of the most detailed maps of the New York area, it served as an important British military plan of the region during the conflict. Schwartz and Ehrenberg Mapping of America pp.181-82.
