Together 34 works in 9 volumes, 4° (vol. I: 255 x 177mm., vols. II-IX approx.: 251 x 172mm.), uniformly-bound in contemporary blind-stamped pigskin over wooden boards, except volume I in limp vellum, covers of volumes II-IX lavishly stamped in blind, raised bands, paper labels on spines, spines numbered in manuscript (adhesive marks on tail of spines, vols. II, VII, and VIII lightly wormed). Provenance: "Bibliotheca Weisenauensis" (scored old manuscript inscription on first title); "Monasterii SS Petri et Pauli in Augia Minore" (scored old manuscript inscriptions); "Bibliothek SJ - Zürich" (library stamps); "Archivum V.-Prov. Helveticae" (library stamps); armorial bookplate with initials "B A Z W".

A comprehensive collection of Lipsius's work ranging from treatises on politics and ethics (De constantia, first published in 1584), on the army (De militia romana, first published in 1595), on the defence and attack of fortified towns (Poliocreticon, first published in 1596), a statistical work on the Roman Empire (Admiranda, first published in 1598) to an explanation and general outline of Stoic philosophy (Manductionis ad stoicam philosophiam libri III, first published in 1604) and an analysis of the theology, physics and cosmology of the Stoics (Pysiologiae stoicorum libri III, first published in 1604). Paul Lejay describes the last two works as "even to-day the most complete treatise ever written on Stoicism as a whole" (Catholic Encyclopedia). (9)
