Cadell, London, 1822. 3 volumes, 8°, contemporary half calf and marbled boards, smooth spines directly lettered in gilt, marbled edges. Provenance: Charles first Viscount Eversley of Heckfield (armorial bookplate). FIRST EDITION. John Galt was born in Ayrshire, he became acquainted with Byron and published a life in 1830, but is chiefly remembered for his stories of country life in Scotland.
