A FACTORY ENGRAVED .44 COLT MODEL 1860 ARMY REVOLVER, NO. 152723 I FOR 1864
The sighted barrel marked -ADDRESS COL. SAML. COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA-, cylinder marked COLTS PATENT No. 2723, silver plated three screw shoulder stock cut frame stamped COLT'S PATENT, engraved on muzzle, barrel lug (featuring special bird's head motif), frame and back strap with the Late Vine Scroll type engraving, with the hammer engraved with a wolf's head and having hand-checkered spur (traces of gilt finish remain on the hammer), ivory grips with large relief carved Mexican Eagle and Snake on Cactus motif
8 inch (20.4 cm.) barrel
Light grey patina overall, barrel and cylinder cleaned, engraving at muzzle faint, frame with much silver plate, hammer with traces of gilt, left ivory grip panel chipped at top corner, back strap (numbered 153196 I, though mismatched to revolver is factory engraved in the Late Vine Scroll style) back strap bent out of shape.
