According to Texas Collector: Gaines de Graffenried by Conger this gun was brought to Waco, Texas around 1858 by J.W. Mann from Lebanon, Tennessee. Mann acquired the nickname of "Sallie" during the Civil War, where he served with Peter F. Ross' 6th Texas Cavalry.
After the war, Mann was one of the builders of Waco's early suspension span bridge over the Brazos River.
This gun came into the possession of Gaines de Graffenried from the estate of Wesley Mann in the 1930s.
