An Italian silver-gilt mirror plateau
Mark of Giovanni Casolla, Naples, circa 1820
Oval, in seven sections, now attached into three, with border frieze of anthemion and acanthus with two drapery-clad reclining classical figures with floral garlands at each end, on fourteen triple lion's-paw feet with plain columns applied with classical figures, extending at the sides to detachable part fluted vase-shaped candle sockets each with two foliate handles, marked on side of frieze and sockets

Lot Essay

The sale cited above included a number of vases and dessert-stands, also by Casolla, which were presumably designed to adorn this magnificent mirror-plateau.
