A large mother-of-pearl inlaid dowry chest
Ottoman Syria or Turkey, late 19th Century
A deep rectangular chest on bracket feet, the top with three large roundels, the central one with a crescent moon and star surrounded by floral motifs, outer border of floral motifs and trefoil design, the crescent moon and star repeated at the corners, the front with a central oval cartouche containing stylised military motifs flanked by vases of flowers, outer border similar to top, sides with further vases of flowers, brass loop handles, blue and white floral ceramic knob, very good condition
