Late Edo Period (19th Century)
Comprising: gold nashiji ['pearskin' lacquer] saya [scabbard] with aoi-mon [hollyhock crests] of the Tokugawa family in gold hiramaki-e [low-relief lacquer]; tsuka [hilt] covered in silk brocade wrapped in off-white woven silk tapes forming a lozenge pattern; the metal fittings all gilt nanako [granulated ground] worked in relief and gilding with the same crests; the hanging tapes of woven silk dyed with a kikko [hexagonal geometric] pattern
