Lot Essay
Born in Dublin, Hugh Monahan studied at Pembroke College Cambridge and then after a short period in the army at the Slade School of Art, London. He served as President of the Wildfowler's Association of Great Britain and Ireland from 1953 until 1956 when he and his family left England to settle in British Columbia. He died on 23 November 1970 from a heart attack, having left his home in Vancouver that morning to go duck shooting.
