Signed Inoue, Hirokore and Mitsuhisa, Early Meiji Period (Circa 1875-90)
With dark yellowish-brown patination, of ovoid form with an almost flat shoulder, a very short neck and an out-turned rim, the body decorated with two geese and reeds, the moon behind clouds and a flock of geese flying down from the shoulder, these designs executed in relief of gold, silver, copper and shibuichi [copper-silver alloy], signed on the slightly recessed base on one shibuichi and two silver plaques Inoue sei [made by Inoue], Hirokore, and Mitsuhisa with a kao

Lot Essay

The name Inoue probably refers to the company that commissioned this piece; it also produced wares in Komai style and may possibly be identified with Inoue Kichibei, who is recorded in the Paris Universal Exposition of 1900.1
