Signed Atsuyoshi and Kuroda, Mid-Meiji Period (Circa 1875-1890)
The vase with dark brown patination, of elongated ovoid form with a flattish shoulder, short neck and out-turned rim, decorated in gold, silver and shibuichi with a eagle sitting on the flowering branch of an old cherry tree, signed in incised characters on the slightly recessed base Kyoto Kuroda sei (made by Kuroda of Kyoto), 12½in. (31.9cm.) high; the pair of vases with yellowish-brown patina, each of elongated ovoid form with applied flattish shoulder, short neck and everted mouth, decorated with suisen [narcissus] and egrets in a stream, these designs executed in gold, silver, copper and shakudo with engraving, each signed in chiselled characters on the base Dainihon Kyoto no ju Ikkodo Miyabe Atsuyoshi [Ikkodo Miyabe Atsuyoshi of Kyoto in Japan], with a kao, 9¾in. (24.2cm.) high (3)
