Lot Essay

The authenticity of the present work has been kindly confirmed by Dr Marian Bisanz-Prakken in a letter dated 30.04.01, stating that it will be included in the forthcoming supplement to the catalogue raisonné of Klimt drawings.

This drawing bears the confirmation of authenticity by Hermine Klimt, the artist's sister. Drawn in 1903, it belongs to the series of studies made in connection with the painting Jurisprudenz, one of the works Klimt was commissioned to produce for the hall of Vienna University in 1896 (fig. 1).
