A FINE THREE-BARREL COMBINATION RIFLE/SHOTGUN BY FREDERICK SMITH, SPRINGPORT, NEW YORK, CIRCA 1850
The three bores cut through a single piece of steel, the exterior with integral broad rib inscribed F Smith, with two rows of ramrods pipes soldered to either side of rifled barrel, mounted with a sighting tube/scope by G. T. Abbey of Chicago, Ill., unusual false-muzzle, back-action locks inscribed with maker's name Smith, each with three perched birds and one flying bird (right lock's flying bird engraved inverted suggesting an engraver's error), under-hammer actuated by trigger-guard, double triggers, walnut stock with engraved silver American Eagle set into cheekpiece, silver-plated patch-box engraved with American Eagle, heavy iron butt and toe-plate engraved with scrolls, florals and drapery
