He represented England in 10 First Class matches (1920/21-1924), touring with the M.C.C. to Australia in 1920-21. A strong right-hand batsman and wiley right-arm slow bowler, he was a close friend of Neville Cardus who collaborated with him on the writing of Cricket Triumphs and Troubles, his autobiography.
