The present work in its masterful use of coloured forms is a fine example of Poliakoff's life long search for the perfect balance, which he himself would describe as 'le silence complet' (the complete silence).
Deeply influenced by the works of the Russian abstract pioneers Kandinsky and Malevich, Poliakoff's paintings are also strongly reminiscent of Russian icons. In much the same way as the icons of his native Russia, the overall sense of calm and perfect balance emerging from his works, are a tool for the viewer to reach a higher level of consciousness and a state of meditative contemplation.
