The oval plate in a beaded slip with alternating patera and fluted frame, with a pierced anthemion and acanthus cresting and pierced acanthus cresting, inscribed in chalk on the reverse 'MAC', regilt

Lot Essay

A dressing-mirror of related oval form with pearled border and Grecian palm-flower, was executed in silver-gilt by Messrs Daniel Smith and Robert Sharp in 1783 (sold anonymously, in these Rooms, 30 April 1996, lot 61).
An identical mirror, but lacking the pierced cresting and apron, was sold from the Michael Lipitch sale, Sotheby's London, 22 May 1998, lot 314.
