A French gilt-bronze and porcelain-mounted striking mantel clock and garniture, circa 1870
The arched case surmounted by a porcelain urn (one handle lacking), with jewelled porcelain panels to the front, the central panel depicting two lovers dancing in a glade, the base with conforming decoration and shield-shaped panel depicting a lady smelling a flowers brought by a youth, the porcelain dial with Roman chapters on white reserves and within gilt borders, interspersed with jewelled flowers, the centre painted with a chateau and signed J. MAYER PARIS, with gilt spade hands, the twin barrel movement with strike on bell and repeat signature to the backplate -- 18¼in. (46.5cm.) high; and a pair of ornamental side urns, possibly associated -- 14½in. (37cm.) high (3)
