Lot Essay

This is a version of part of a larger composition, including a fishermen and a distant frigate on the missing left side, formerly in the collection of Sir William Dugdale, Bt., of Merevale Hall, Warwickshire. Robinson, loc. cit., notes that Sir Bruce IUngram wrote to Sir William concerning his picture in 1947, and described it as having been cut and much restored.
