Lot Essay

This bronze cast from the plaster circa 1900 for the marble and granite monument to the memory of Lazare Hoche at Quiberon in Brittany. Hoche was a general of the French Revolution rivaling Napoleon, who died suddenly in 1799. The plaster maquette is in the Petit Palais and the three meter high plaster model is in the Pantheon.
