Lot Essay

Victoria Dubourg, the wife of Henri Fantin-Latour, was an accomplished painter in her own right. She was invited to exhibit at the Salon from 1869 on and was best known for her still lifes of flowers and fruits. Dubourg's work, while clearly derivative of Fantin-Latour's style, is often confused with her husband's work due to her technical proficiency.
