A RARE FAHUA ARCHAISTIC FLARING VASE, ZUN
16TH CENTURY

The globular central section moulded with four butterflies between flanges decorated in white and purple on a turquoise ground, the splayed lower section moulded with flower sprays between similar flanges and decoration, the flaring upper section moulded with scrolling peony and similarly decorated, the interior and base green, the footrim unglazed (glaze chips on rim)--9 1/8in. (23cm.) high

Fahua vases in this shape appear to be rare.
