A RARE JADEITE OCTAGONAL LANTERN AND COVER AND GREEN JADE STAND
19TH CENTURY

Each facet of the lantern well carved in shallow relief on the lower register with alternating dragons and phoenix, each shown in a different attitude, the upper register carved in high relief and undercut with five dragons striding and leaping amidst whispy clouds, the largest two and the pearl they contest highlighted in the bright emeral- green inclusions of the pale greenish-white stone, all within raised keyfret borders, the stepped cover centered by a phoenix roundel surrounded by the Eight Trigrams, the whole raised on a separate spinach-green stand of conforming outline raised on bracket supports, carved with trailing vapour and with a raised inner rim which sockets into the lower rim of the lantern to surround the central circular aperture in the lantern's base--10 1/8in. (25.7cm.) high overall
