Note: This rare variety, of which only three examples have been recorded to date, should mot be confused with the listed double surcharge variety (S.G. 93b, f; Chan 84q), which is markedly different in appearance. The closely spaced doubling of this surcharge bears far more resemblence to the "double inverted" surcharge variety. The three known varieties all bear February Shanghai cancellations. As is the case of the example illustrated in "The Revenue Surcharge China 1897, Vol. I, p. 19, which is from the L.Y. Woo collection, the above stamp is similarly centred and the surcharge also slightly high and very slightly to the upper right.
