Lot Essay

William Prinsep studied drawing under George Chinnery in Calcutta.
In 1802 Chinnery celebrated his marriage to Mary Campbell with a double portrait now in the HongKong and Shanghai Bank collection. In 1842, shortly before his retirement, he visited Canton and Macao where he met up with Chinnery again. His painting of the Ma Kok Temple in Macao is in the Hong Kong Museum of Art
