With spire finial and angular handles, painted in colours with Highland cattle, signed lower left, the back with a landscape vignette, above gilt stiff leaf-tips, on a flaring base

Lot Essay

Harry Stinton was employed at the Worcester factory as a painter from 1896-1968. Along with his brother James, he specialized in landscapes of Highland cattle such as that found on the present vase and cover. According to Henry Sandon, a particular feature of Stinton cattle scenes is the fact that the beasts' hooves are always hidden in long grass.
