A FIVE-CASE LACQUER INRO

Of rectangular shape, the gyobu-nashiji ground with superimposed reserves decorated in iro-e hiramaki-e and applied gilt-metal, one side with a rectangular gold reserve depicting a samurai's riding gear, with inlaid bow and quiver, and a fan-shaped reserve with a boy riding a hobby horse beneath a persimmon tree, the figure inlaid, with other toys scattered about, both gold grounds, the reverse with a plum-shaped reserve designed on a red lacquer ground with a court lady seated beside a kicho, and a rectangular reserve with two pheasants perched on the trunk of a cherry tree, interior cases nashiji; fitted with a coral bead ojime and a tsuishu manju netsuke carved with Chinese boys in a landscape--4in. (10cm.) high
