A PAIR OF LACQUER SAKE CUPS AND STANDS

Each roiro stand of square shape raised on four bracket feet, decorated around the mid-section in gold hiramaki-e with adjoining flower medallions and on the upper surface in red togidashi and nashiji with the sun behind bands of mist, with silver rims and containing a removable tray lacquered in gold takamaki-e, hiramaki-e, nashiji, and kirigane with cranes flying above rocks and waves, pierced to accommodate the raised foot of the shallow sake cup, each cup of red lacquer decorated in gold takamaki-e, hiramaki-e and kirigane with further scenes of cranes, rocks and waves, the undersides decorated with four cranes in flight--stands 4½ x 4½ x 3in.
